Jonathan Ray’s Wine Pick: Bedoba White 2025

Written by

One of the many joys of buying from an independent merchant is wandering in with an enquiring thirst, throwing yourself on their mercy and being directed to something you’d never normally think of buying.

Thus it was at Symposium in Lewes the other day. I hadn’t got a clue what I wanted but co-owner, Rob, knowing the sort of thing I like, gave me a quick slurp of this from Kakheti, Georgia.

A blend of handpicked Rkatsteli and Kisi (nope, nor me), fermented in both earthenware amphorae and stainless steel, it hit the absolute bullseye. Full of fresh ripe pears, honey, nuts, stewed apples and just a touch of cream, it slipped down so easily that I drained the glass and bought a bottle on the spot.

Enjoy it at Symposium (there or to take away) or over a meal at the Brewers Arms, Lewes High Street, where it’s their Wine of the Moment.

What is OctoberBest?

OctoberBest is an annual restaurant festival which is directly linked to the Brighton’s Best Restaurants Dome Award winners of that same year. Winners of One, Two and Three Domes, as well as those awarded a Local Favourite rating are invited to participate. During one designated fortnight in October, each restaurant offers diners a special menu which best showcases their food. It’s a great opportunity for restaurants to attract new customers, and for diners to try somewhere new at a discounted price.

Why Are Food Reviews Important?

Food reviews are essential as they provide insights into dining experiences. They help consumers choose restaurants that meet their expectations and can influence a restaurant's reputation. Positive reviews can attract more customers, while negative ones can prompt improvements in service and quality.
